Davis Cup 2012: Philippines sweeps past Pacific Oceana

The Asia Oceania Zone Group II Davis Cup match between the Philippines and Pacific Oceana took place from February 10 to 12 with the former sweeping past its foes on Sunday with a commanding 5-0 victory.

The Philippines vs Pacific Oceana tie took place at the University of St. Anthony indoor hardcourt in Iriga City.

The Filipino tennisters already assured the country’s victory on Saturday after Johnny Arcilla and Ruben Gonzales won its doubles match against Cyril Jacobe and Daniel Llarenas to post a 3-0 lead. In Friday’s opening singles matches, Fil-American Treat Huey beat Michael Leong 6-0, 6-3, 6-2 and Jeson Patrombon, a former world juniors no. 9, swept past Jacobe 6-3, 6-2, 7-6.

Philippines will next face either Lebanon or Pakistan in the next round scheduled on April 6 to 8. The team lost the Group I standing by the end of 2011 after losing all its three matches.
