BNP Paribas Open 2012 Indian Wells: Murray loses opening match yet again

The impressive start of the 2012 season for world number four Andy Murray came to a stunning halt at the BNP Paribas Open 2012 Indian Wells tournament after he was beaten by Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the second round 6-4, 6-2. This is the second consecutive year that Murray lost his opening match here at Indian Wells. He had a bye on the first round the past two years.

A year ago, Murray was defeated by a qualifier. This time, he was beaten by a player ranked 92nd in the world.

“I have to go away and think about what happened,” Murray was quoted as saying.

“I played great in practice, was hitting the ball really well. I felt pretty fresh. I didn’t move my best tonight, but it didn’t feel like I was moving really badly. He hardly missed the ball the whole match. He was playing with a lot of spin, and he plays his best tennis on clay courts,” he added.

Prior to this tournament, Murray had one of the most impressive starts of the season – winning his 22nd title in Brisbane, reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open and the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships.

“I have had bad losses before and come back better, so that’s obviously my goal now the next two weeks is to prepare for Miami and get myself playing very well again,” he concluded.
