Kim Clijsters to miss 2012 claycourt season, including Roland Garros

Four-time Grand Slam champion Kim Clijsters won’t be taking part in the claycourt season this year including the 2012 French Open tournament following a hip injury she got at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami last month. The Belgian former world number one is setting her sights at the grasscourt season and the Olympics.

“I’m really gutted to not be able to prove myself on clay for a last time,” Clijsters said on her website.

“But my current physique does not allow to be ready for the French Open. I am looking forward to an extended period of preparing for the unique grass court season of Wimbledon and the Olympics,” she added.

Clijsters returned to professional tennis in 2009 after a two-year absence and the decision paid off for her since she went on to win three more Grand Slam titles = the 2009 and 2010 US Open and the 2011 Australian Open.
