Roland Garros 2012: Rafael Nadal aims for record seventh title

Rafael Nadal’s greatest victories have always been on claycourts. It is obvious that the Roland Garros tournament in Paris is the place where he’s shown his greatest successes. This year, the 10-time Grand Slam winner is gunning for his record seventh French Open title, a record-setting feat.

“I spend a lot of time here in the city and I feel comfortable,” Nadal said.

“I came here with my family for holidays like 10 years ago, and since that moment I’ve always loved this place,” he added.

Nadal is the heavy favorite to win the European claycourt Slam once more after ending his seven title-match losing streak against top-ranked Novak Djokovic in Monte Carlo and also beating the Serbian at the 2012 Rome Masters final. Last year, Djokovic dominated the claycourt season with title wins in Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome but eventually falling to Federer at the French Open 2011 semifinals. Nadal went on to win the Roland Garros title after beating Federer.

“I played fantastic tournaments in Monte-Carlo, Barcelona, and Rome. That’s it. I’m playing well,” said Nadal.

“I arrived here with positive feelings, and I will try my best to be very competitive and to be in the right level to have my chances,” he added.
