Rome Masters 2012: Novak Djokovic beats Federer to reach final

World number one and defending Rome Masters champion Novak Djokovic will once again face no. 3 Rafael Nadal in a repeat of last year’s Rome Masters title match after beating Roger Federer 6-2, 7-6 on Saturday.

“Here he was winning convincingly in all his matches, so I knew he was in good form,” said Djokovic.

“I needed to step in the match, believing I could win. I played really good from the beginning to the end,” he added.

Djokovic is seeking his third Rome Masters title. He first won the trophy in 2008 (defeated Stanislas Wawrinka) and last year where he beat five-time champion Rafael Nadal.

Djokovic will have a chance to avenge his defeat against Nadal at the Monte-Carlo Masters final last month.

“Rafa is the player I’ve played against the most in my career. We’re all aware of his qualities on this surface, which suits him the best,” Djokovic said.

“I’ll try to prepare myself. Physically, I’m feeling good, and I’m motivated as always, so I hope for the best,”
