Britain’s Heather Watson gave her home country something to cheer about after reaching the Wimbledon 2012 Championships third round on Wednesday after beating Jamie Hampton of the United States 6-1, 6-4.
The 103rd-ranked player won her first round match on Centre Court, the first British woman to do so since 1985. With the victory, Watson became the first woman from Britain to make it to the third round in Wimbledon since Elena Baltacha ten years ago.
