Halle 2012: Federer gets own street in German city

The Gerry Weber Open 2012 in Halle, Germany takes place on June 11, Monday with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer headlining the tournament. In honor of his tennis greatness, not to mention his five title wins in this tournament in the past, Roger Federer was given tribute by creating a “Roger Federer-Allee,” the said street leads to the main stadium Weststrasse.

Federer said that he was humbled and honored to have been given this tribute. Last year, the Swiss star opted to skip the tournament in order to rest for the Wimbledon tournament. He reached the final of the Roland Garros last year and lost to Rafael Nadal. This year, he reached the semifinals and lost to Novak Djokovic on Friday.

The last time Federer won the Halle event was in 2008 where he defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber. He has a 36-4 win loss record in this grasscourt tournament – which he considers as a lucrative warm-up event leading to the Wimbledon Championships.
