Roger Federer intends to snag title number 7 at Wimbledon

World number three Roger Federer has yet to win another Grand Slam title since the Australian Open in 2010, since then he had seen the likes of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic going on to win the succeeding Grand Slam titles. Nadal and Djokovic are on course to face for another Grand Slam final in two week’s time if no one can stop this, and this is the task that Federer intends to do.

“I am dreaming of the title, there’s no denying that,” Federer said.

“I think it’s up to somebody else to break that mould. I hope I can do that. They’ve done amazing the last years, not just the last year or so. Hopefully it’s my time of the year now or someone else’s… If it is someone else, I hope it’s me, of course,” he added.

Federer skipped a warm-up grasscourt tournament last year in Halle and lost at the All England Club in the quarterfinals to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France. This year, the Swiss star took part at the Halle event and lost to German veteran Tommy Haas in the final. However, that loss did not affect his momentum when it comes to achieving his seventh Wimbledon title.

“It’s up to me to make that difference now and take it to the next step. Then once hopefully I am there, I can reach for the title,” he said.

Federer said that it would be “absolutely fantastic” to tie Pete Sampras’ haul at the All England Club.

A title win could propel Federer back to the top of the world rankings. Federer only has quarterfinal points to defend while Nadal has runner-up points to maintain while Djokovic needs to retain the Wimbledon title to assure that the top ranking remains uncontested.
