Roger Federer rallies from two sets down, reaches Roland Garros semifinals

World number three Roger Federer has set up a rematch of the French Open 2011 semifinal match against Novak Djokovic on Wednesday after overcoming a two-set deficit to beat Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina 3-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-0, 6-3. The victory has earned Federer his 31st Grand Slam semifinal berth, a record-tying feat with former top-ranked Jimmy Connors. The win also continued his record-setting total of Grand Slam match wins at 237.

Federer has beated Del Potro for the seventh consecutive time since their famous encounter at the 2009 US Open final where Del Potro stunned the then top-ranked Swiss star to earn his first Grand Slam title and ended Federer’s 40-match win streak at Flushing Meadows.

Last year, Federer ended Djokovic’s 43-match winning streak at the semifinals of the Roland Garros tournament. He lost the final to six-time champion Rafael Nadal.
