Roger Federer starts Wimbledon 2012 campaign in dominating fashion

Roger Federer started his campaign for a record-tying seventh Wimbledon title by dominating his first round opponent Albert Ramos of Spain 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 – sending a message to everyone that he could be the one lifting the Championship trophy in two week’s time.

The Swiss star recorded 33 winners against just 10 unforced errors. Federer employed serve-and-volley tactics which left his opponent running from both sides to retrieve the ball. Federer won 25 out of 34 trips to the net.

“Maybe Albert is not the most experienced grass court player out there—that’s for sure—but I was able to play a very clean match,” Federer said in his post-match interview.

“It’s always nice to save energy, potentially, if you want to go further in the draw, and [it] gives you the confidence to close out matches easily. Things worked out perfectly today,” he added.
