Roland Garros 2012: Novak Djokovic’s record aim almost dashed at French Open

Tennis fans from all over are closely monitoring the Roland Garros 2012 tournament due to the fact the current top-ranked Novak Djokovic is just a few matches away from achieving a record that has not been matched in more than forty years.

Djokovic is aiming to become the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all the four Major titles in one calendar. However, on Sunday, this goal was almost dashed by Italian Andreas Seppi after leading two sets to love before Djokovic clawed back to win the remaining three sets to post a 4-6, 6-7(5), 6-3, 7-5, 6-3 victory.

“I think he was a better player for the first two sets, definitely,” said Djokovic.

“I was very fortunate to come through this match. I was fighting. When I was two sets down, I believed I could win the match, and that’s the only positive I can really pick up from today’s match. It was one of those days where you don’t feel [like anything] is working really. My serve was well. But aside that, I could not get into the rhythm. I was fighting, and I think because of the fight I won the match,” he added.

Djokovic awaits the winner of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Stanislas Wawrinka match because the latter’s match was suspended due to darkness with Tsonga leading.
