Venus, Serena Williams win doubles match opener at Wimbledon

The Williams sisters are always the team to beat when they take part at Grand Slam doubles events. Venus and Serena Williams won their first round doubles match on Thursday with a dominating 6-0, 6-3 win against Serbia’s Vesna Dolonc and Ukraine’s Olga Savchuk.

With their dominant serves and teamplay, the sisters did not have problems in this match and cruised to the second round of the Wimbledon 2012 Ladies’ Doubles event. They have won this event four times in the past, part of their 12-Grand Slam title haul in doubles competition.

The Williams sisters have not played a doubles event together since losing their 2010 Wimbledon quarterfinals match.

Venus Williams was already eliminated in the singles competition while Serena is now in the third round after winning her match earlier in the day.
