All attention is now at the All England Club for the 2012 Wimbledon Championships. The grasscourt Slam event of the year will take place at the All England Club and this is the best preparation that ATP and WTA players can get for the upcoming London 2012 Olympics tennis competition which will also take place at the same venue. The defending champions of the Wimbledon tournament are Novak Djokovic for the men’s singles and Petra Kvitova for the ladies’ singles.
Djokovic is expected to be the top-seed of the tournament despite losing the Roland Garros 2012 final to Rafael Nadal. The latter remains as the second seed while six-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer will get the third seeding. Federer is aiming to emulate the feat by Pete Sampras to win seven Wimbledon titles.
In the women’s side, newly crowned Roland Garros champion Maria Sharapova is expected to clinch the top seeding due to her current ranking and at the same time, her success in grasscourts can’t be doubted. She’s been a champion here before.
The second seeding will surely go to Victoria Azarenka, the 2012 Australian Open, and the third seeding will go to either Agnieszka Radwanska or Petra Kvitova depending as to whether the organizers will recognize Kvitova’s Wimbledon run last year as enough to bump out Radwanska in number three. Of course, not to be overlooked are Serena Williams and Venus Williams who have nine Wimbledon singles titles combined.
Other events at the 2012 Wimbledon Championships are not to be missed as well, with the doubles competition heating up.
