Wimbledon 2012: Andy Murray aims to improve from semifinal streak

Britain’s top-ranked player Andy Murray has been a semifinalist at the Wimbledon Championships for the past three years and playing at his home Slam tournament, the pressure is once again back for the world number four to break free from the streak and make it to the final – and if possible – to clinch his first Grand Slam singles title.

“I think in all sports playing at home is viewed as being a huge advantage, whereas for some reason when it comes to Wimbledon everyone thinks it’s a bad thing. There’s more pressure on you and it doesn’t help,” he said in an interview with Wimbledon.com.

“But I haven’t found it that way. When I’ve played here, I’ve enjoyed the challenge, I’ve enjoyed playing in front of a passionate crowd, and it’s helped me,” he added.

His preparation for the grasscourt Slam event has not been good so far. He lost during the earlier rounds at Queen’s Club tournament – where he was the defending champion. However, Murray said that he’s been training well the past few weeks that he’s confident about his chances this year.

His first round opponent is not someone to be underestimated. He was drawn to a former world number three by the name of Nikolay Davydenko. Davydenko has a 4-1 head to head match lead against Murray but they’ve never played on grasscourts so far.

“It would be stupid for me to look past Davydenko. Although I’m sure many people will, I won’t be making that mistake,” Murray said.
