2012 Rogers Cup won’t feature defending champ Serena Williams

The organizers of the 2012 Rogers Cup revealed that 35 of the world’s top-ranked ATP players and 24 out of the top 25 female players have signed up for the upcoming 2012 Rogers Cup, which begins on August 4. This higher tier tennis event will challenge the players as they make a quick turnaround from grasscourts to hardcourts since the 2012 London Olympics takes place from July 28 to August 5 and the tennis competitions will take place at the All England Club, the famous location for the Wimbledon tournament.

Only fourth-ranked Serena Williams is reportedly not going to take part at the women’s event this year. However, this might still change considering that she is the defending champion of this tournament and could lose significant ranking points in the process. This might depend on how she’ll fare in the Olympics.
