ATP World Tour Rankings – July 9, 2012: Roger Federer back at number one

The ATP World Tour rankings on the week starting July 9, 2012 showed a significant shift in the men’s rankings. Roger Federer of Switzerland finally regained the top ranking to continue the goal of breaking the long-standing record set by Pete Sampras with the most number of weeks at the top of the world’s rankings. This week, they’re now both tied at 286 weeks but this will be shattered with Federer since he’s expected to retain the ranking during the US hardcourt season should he continue to perform better than Novak Djokovic.
