China’s Jie Zheng picks Serena Williams as 2012 Wimbledon Champion

After a close 6-7, 6-2, 9-7 loss to Serena Williams in the third round of 2012 Wimbledon Championships, Jie Zheng of China said that she’s picking the American former world number one to win this grasscourt Slam event. This is the third time that they’ve played against each other at the All England Club and all of these matches have gone the distance with Williams prevailing in three sets.

“After we finish the match, she just told me, ‘You are crazy. You are crazy,'” the Chinese tennis star said.

“She [also] said “Oh, this is a unbelievable match I think for us.” So, yeah. I just wish her can win this year,” she added.

Williams will next face Kazakhstan’s Yaroslava Shvedova in the fourth round. The latter just achieved a “Golden Set” (winning a set with 24 consecutive points with no point/s won by the opponent) in beating French Open 2012 runner-up Sara Errani.

“I look forward to it. Hopefully I’ll be able to win a point in the set. That will be my first goal, and then I’ll go from there,” Williams said.
