London 2012 Olympics: Serena Williams’ Gold Medal winning-run commences

14-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams begins her quest for the elusive singles tennis gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics on Saturday and what a great way to begin the journey than to win her first round match against the formidable Jelena Jankovic of Serbia 6-3, 6-1. Both players have a 4-4 head-to-head coming into this match and Jankovic, a former top-ranked player, couldn’t produce her best game against the in-form Williams, who just won her fifth Wimbledon singles title two weeks ago at the same stage here at the All England Club.

The Williams vs Jankovic London Olympics first round match featured a high-profile audience, US First Lady Michelle Obama.
