Serena Williams equals Venus’ record of five Wimbledon singles titles

World number four Serena Williams staged a remarkable runat the 2012 Wimbledon championships – going all the way to the title to win her fifth singles trophy at this grasscourt Slam tournament. With the title win, Serena has just equaled her older sister Venus’ haul at the All England Club. Most remarkably, the sisters went on to win their fifth Wimbledon Ladies’ Doubles title on Sunday as well.

“I’m so happy to be on the court,” she said, in an interview prior to the final.

“I feel like this is where I belong. I mean, maybe I don’t belong in a relationship. Maybe I don’t belong somewhere else. But I know for a fact I do belong on this tennis court,” she said.

Serena became the first thirty-something woman since Martina Navratilova in 1990 to win the Wimbledon ladies’ singles title.
