Wimbledon 2012: Roger Federer reveals no issues going on with Novak Djokovic

It’s always been part of sporting media to come up with an interesting news angle especially when it concerns rivalries amongst top players. In this case, during an interview with Roger Federer after his win at the Wimbledon 2012 quarterfinals, he was adked if there are any lingering issues between him and top-ranked Novak Djokovic of Serbia. The Swiss star said that there’s none and leave it at that.

“I was just upset at [Djokovic] calling the trainer out for no obvious reason against my buddy, Stan, in a five-setter,” Federer said.

“That was it. We had a quick chat about it in Madrid after that, and things are cool since a long time between me and him. I’ve always respected him. Have I gone out for dinner with him? No. But had many meetings with him at the [ATP Players] Council, and then now with the Grand Slams. He’s been nice to work with. We’ve met on several occasions because of other things together. I have no issues with him, and I hope you believe me,” he added.

Federer was referring to an incident at the 2006 David Cup tie between Serbia and Switzerland wherein Djokovic called for a trainer in his match against Stanislas Wawrinka (Federer’s teammate) for no reason. Djokovic eventually won the match but overall it was Switzerland who clinched the victory 4-1.
