WTA shows support for Wimbledon schedule change

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has released an official statement showing its support for the impending move to change the schedule of the Wimbledon Championships at the All England Club. Starting at the 2015, the grasscourt Slam tournament will start three weeks after the conclusion of the Roland Garros tournament. This will give the players enough time to recover from the gruelling claycourt season and to transition to grasscourt tournaments.

“The WTA supports the All-England Club’s decision to move The Championships date back by one week from 2015. We believe that long term this move is in the interest of our fans, our players and the sport as a whole. At the same time, we do recognize the significant impact that the move will have on the tennis calendar, and we are committed to working with our tournament and player members, and fellow governing bodies, to ensure we are all prepared for the calendar shift in 2015,” WTA said in a statement.
