Cincinnati Masters 2012: Roger Federer heads tough field

Swiss star Roger Federer heads a star-studded field at the 2012 Cincinnati Masters which begins this week. The world number one has opted to skip the Toronto Masters event to have enough rest time to compete at this ATP 1000 Masters event where he’s a four-time champion.

Federer has just turned 31 years of age on the eighth of August. Three days prior to that, he lost the gold medal match against Andy Murray in London. However, Federer sincerely said that he’s happy to have won a medal after failed attempts in his past three appearances at the Olympic Games. He did win the Olympics gold in doubles at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The tournament has so far lost number three Rafael Nadal, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and John Isner due to injuries but Federer’s not underestimating the field which includes Toronto Masters 2012 titlist Novak Djokovic and defending champion Andy Murray.
