Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2012 to feature strongest field to date

The 2012 Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur will feature its strongest field to date. The fourth edition of the ATP 250 event will take place from September 22 to 30, 2012 at the Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil.

Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur Tournament Director Nick Freyer revealed that the ranking cut-off for this year’s event is at 55. This means that several players above this ranking cut-off have signed up for the event.

“To have a cut-off level at 55 highlights how strong this year’s tournament is going to be. It promises to be a sensational week,” Freyer said.

“We have players making their debuts in this wonderful city, we have many who are delighted to be returning and we have other names who the tennis fans here will get to know pretty quickly because they will thrill everyone. This is a tremendous honour and we look forward to welcoming them with the warm Malaysian hospitality that they have begun to expect from our tournament,” he added.

Previously announced participants include world number five David Ferrer of Spain, Juan Monaco of Argentina and Kei Nishikori of Japan.

Past participants such as 2011 finalist Marcos Baghdatis and 2009 champion Nikolay Davydenko are slated to return at the tournament. They’ve both played since the tournament’s launch 2009. Joining the impressive this year include Americans Sam Querrey and Ryan Harrison, Spain’s Feliciano Lopez, Australian Jurgen Melzer, Colombian Alejandro Falla and Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov.
