Olympic Glory can Propel Murray

Andy Murray has made it clear that his gold medal win at the Olympics could be the platform to propel himself into a position to finally win his first Grand Slam title.

The British star produced a sensational performance against Roger Federer, to clinch the gold medal at the All England Club, avenging his defeat to the same man less than a month previous in the final of Wimbledon.

That defeat – then, a familiar sight for fans who enjoy live tennis online – had been Murray’s fourth in Grand Slam finals, but beating Federer in such dominant fashion – 6-2 6-1 6-4 – has convinced a lot of previous sceptics that the Scotsman is now ready to make the next step up in his career.

Beating Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals and Federer in the final will have done absolute wonders for Murray, not to mention winning his first major title. The US Open next month will give the world number four his chance to prove he really is a genuine challenger.

Murray certainly sounded full of renewed confidence, after bouncing back from his Wimbledon defeat to clinch Team GB their latest gold, on a day where the Scot went on to add a silver medal in the mixed doubles.

“I hope this will give me the confidence to go there and believe in myself a bit more than I have in the past,” said Murray. “Hopefully I can have a good run and give myself a shot at winning.

“To win a gold medal, in the way I did, makes those losses a little bit easier to take. It will help with the way I go into the [Grand Slam] matches and I hope it will make me a better player.”

Murray is now second favourite in the line betting on Bet365 to win at Flushing Meadows , behind Djokovic.
