Several marquee players pull out of Cincinnati Open 2012

The Cincinnati Masters 2012 tournament which begins on August 13 is going to miss several marquee players including world number three Rafael Nadal, number six Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and number 11 John Isner. It seemed like several players are still reeling post London 2012 Olympics and the jet lag doesn’t help with their level of play either. In the women’s side, world number one Victoria Azarenka and defending champion Maria Sharapova have pulled out. Azarenka cited knee injury which forced her to pull out of the ongoing Rogers Cup in Montreal while Sharapova stated that she still has a virus bug that she might have gotten in London.

Despite these disappointing development, the 2012 Cincinnati Open still boasts a rather strong field for both men’s and women’s events. Defending men’s singles titlist and London 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist Andy Murray is back together with top-ranked Roger Federer and second-ranked Novak Djokovic. The women’s field will now be headed by number three Agnieszka Radwanska followed by singles and doubles Career Golden Slam holder Serena Williams.
