The participation of world number three Rafael Nadal at the 2012 US Open was left in doubt after the Spaniard pulled out of the Cincinnati Masters which begins this week. Nadal has not competed since his shock second round exit at the 2012 Wimbledon Championships. Nadal, who won a record-setting seventh Roland Garros title earlier this season, had skipped the 2012 London Olympics tennis event (where he’s the defending gold medalist), the Rogers Cup 2012 Toronto Masters and this week’s Cincinnati Masters.

With the US Open 2012 just two weeks away, fans and experts alike are wondering how soon Nadal will announce whether he’ll play or not at Flushing Meadows.
