US Open 2012: Roger Federer is the top seed

Top-ranked Roger Federer is the number one seed at the US Open 2012 Tennis Championships after winning the Cincinnati Masters tournament on Sunday. The Swiss only needed to reach the final of the ATP 1000 Masters event to secure this honor but he went one step further to seal the deal. The 31-year old went on to tie Rafael Nadal’s Masters haul of 21 Masters titles after beating number two Novak Djokovic of Serbia 6-0, 7-6.

“The goal has already been achieved by getting back there,” said Federer.

“I have to look at the long term, and I would like to stay around for as long as I can. For that reason I have to pace myself at times, but I’m happy I’m playing so well again right off the bat again here in the States. Obviously I hope I can keep it up tomorrow and then also in New York,” he added.

Federer has also set a record at the Lindner Family Tennis Center by winning the Cincinnati Masters five times. He won this title in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010. This season, Federer has won six titles so far: Wimbledon, Indian Wells, Madrid, Rotterdam, Dubai and Cincinnati.
