The 2012 US Open Tennis Championships begins on August 27 to September 9, 2012 at Flushing Meadows, New York. Top ATP and WTA stars are expected to grace the last Grand Slam event of the season. After a remarkable season marked with six title wins including the Wimbledon title, Roger Federer secured the top seeding for the men’s singles field while Belarusian Victoria Azarenka is the top seed in the women’s singles field.
The defending US Open champions are Novak Djokovic and Samantha Stosur. Djokovic secured his then fourth Grand Slam title with a tough and come-from-behind victory against Federer in the semifinals and another win against Rafael Nadal to win the hardcourt Slam title. Stosur capped her first Grand Slam singles title with a win against Serena Williams.
The favorites to win the 2012 US Open Championships are Roger Federer (who just won the Cincinnati Masters on Sunday) and Serena Williams who truly dominated the grass season with singles and doubles title victories at Wimbledon Championships and at the London Olympic Games.
