The match takes place at night after the Kim Clijsters vs Victoria Duval women’s singles match. Federer, a five time US Open champion, is the top seed of this hardcourt Slam event. The Swiss star is continuing the record run with the most weeks at the top of the men’s singles rankings after overtaking Novak Djokovic in the standings in July (after winning his 17th Grand Slam title at the Wimbledon 2012 tournament). Donald Young, on the other hand, has been on a slump lately, having lost in the first round several times this year and is projected to crash out of the world’s top 100 after the US Open – that is, if he loses this first round match against Federer.
Federer, of course, is the overwhelming favorite to win this match and would go all the way at least to the semifinals wherein a more challenging player awaits.
