Andy Murray clinches first Grand Slam title, wins US Open 2012

World number four Andy Murray of Great Britain finally pulled away from the continuous pressure of having been part of the Big Four without ever winning a Grand Slam. On Monday, the British tennis star overcame tough challenge from defending champion Novak Djokovic to finally win his first-ever Grand Slam title at the US Open 2012 Tennis Championships.

The match was not short of drama with Murray seemed on course to win the match in straight sets having won the first two sets then a resurgent Djokovic rallied to take the next two sets. However, Murray is not about his fifth chance to a major title just slip away, and went on to win the fifth and deciding to a pulsating 7-6(10), 7-5, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Djokovic.

The clocked ticked at four hours and fifty four minutes, which matched the longest US Open final in history.
