Andy Roddick ends professional tennis career

American Andy Roddick has officially ended his professional tennis career after losing his fourth round match at the US Open 2012 Tennis Championships against Juan Martin Del Potro. The American, formerly ranked number one and won his lone Grand Slam singles title at this same event in 2003, said that it was a tough decision he had to make. And it became real when he was few points from defeat from the match.

“It was tough. Once he kind of got up there in that match it was a different set of circumstances than my previous matches. Then you start thinking about how real it is and a lot of thoughts go through your head,” Roddick said.

“You’re thinking about matches you’re playing when you’re 12 or I was thinking about my mom driving me to practices all over the place. You just think about a million things. Then all of a sudden you have to play a point against one of the best players in the world. It certainly was a mixed bag there at the end,” he added.
