Murray beats Raonic in straight sets to reach US Open 2012 quarters

Despite a dismal run at the North American hardcourt events (Toronto and Cincinnati), third-seeded Andy Murray still is a force to a reckon with especially at the Grand Slam events. The British tennis star progressed to the quarterfinals of the US Open 2012 Championships with a straight sets victory against hard-serving Milos Raonic of Canada. Murray managed to play at his element with a victory against the 15th-seeded Canadian and posted a 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 scoreline.

“You start to see things after a few games. He started serving a lot of big serves. I was just trying to react as quickly as possible,” Murray said after the match.

“Sometimes they fly past you, sometimes you get a racket on them – and I got a racket on them,” he added.

Up next for Murray is Croatian 12th-seeded Marin Cilic. Cilic ended the run of unseeded Martin Klizan of Slovakia in the fourth round. Murray may have a 6-1 head-to-head series lead against Cilic but it is important to note that Cilic’s lone victory against Murray was at the 2009 US Open fourth round.
