US Open 2012 Men’s Final Preview: Novak Djokovic vs Andy Murray

The US Open 2012 Men’s Final is once again pushed on a Monday due to weather conditions but to avid fans out there, the wait will be worth it as it features two of the best players of the game of the moment – World number two Novak Djokovic vs World number four Andy Murray.

Both players have split their matches this 2012 season with Djokovic prevailing against Murray at the semifinals of the Australian Open. Murray roared back and beat Djokovic at Dubai Tennis Championships. At the Miami Masters, Djokovic once again prevailed against the Brit but at their most recent meeting, at the London 2012 Olympics, Murray eliminated the second-ranked player in the world in the semifinals enroute to his gold medal winning performance.

This will be Murray’s second final at Flushing Meadows. He reached this far in 2008 but lost to Roger Federer. This is his fifth Grand Slam singles final. He’s had two Australian Open final runner-up finishes (2010 – lost to Federer; 2012 – lost to Djokovic) and one Wimbledon final runner-up finish (2012 – lost to Federer).

Whatever the outcome of this match will be, Djokovic will remain as the world’s number two once the new ATP rankings are released while Murray will overtake Nadal as world number three due to his run in the final at the 2012 US Open Championships.
