Rafael Nadal ends 2012 season, pulls out of Paris and London

World number four Rafael Nadal has officially ended his 2012 season after announcing that he won’t be participating at the Paris Masters and ATP World Tour Finals in London. This development was announced by ATP World Tour on Thursday.

The 11-time Grand Slam singles winner has been out of the tour since his surprise second-round loss at the Wimbledon Championships to Czech player Lukas Rosol.

“It’s disappointing for me to miss the last two tournaments of the season in Paris and London but it doesn’t come as a surprise,” Nadal said in a statement released by ATP Tour.

“I will hopefully resume my tennis practice soon since I am making good progress with my recovery from injury. I am not ready to compete in time for these events so I will continue my recovery in Mallorca and work hard to be back as soon as possible,” he added.

Nadal has yet to confirm whether he’ll participate at the Davis Cup final from November 16 to 18. Spain is the defending champion of this event and will face Czech Republic in Prague.

The ninth-ranked player in the world will get an automatic qualification for the year-end ATP World Tour Finals after Nadal’s withdrawal.
