Shanghai Masters 2012: Roger Federer to face Andy Murray in the semifinals

World number one Roger Federer is looking forward to his upcoming semifinal match against number three Andy Murray on Saturday at the ongoing Shanghai Rolex Masters 2012 tournament. This will be an opportunity for Federer to even the score against Murray. Murray, the US Open 2012 champion and London Olympic gold medalist, has a 9-8 lead against the Swiss star in their head to head series.

“I’m looking forward to the match,” Federer said.

“It’s always great playing the best players. Those are the kind of matches you want to try to win because that can obviously then move the rankings by a little bit, even though it doesn’t matter so much if you stay within the Top 4. It’s going to be a tough match, [a] good one. From my side, I haven’t decided yet how I’m going to play,” he added.

Federer eased past 10th-seed Marin Cilic of Croatia in the quarterfinals. It is 871st career victory. The Swiss star now has a 64-8 match record of the 2012 season. He’s attempting to secure a record 22nd ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophy.

Murray overcame a setback in the first set to come back and win his quarterfinal match against Radek Stepanek of Czech Republic 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

β€œIt was quite a scrappy first couple of sets, but obviously the second set I managed to get a break, got a bit of momentum,” said Murray.

β€œ[I] started going for my shots and dictated a majority of those at the end of the match. Obviously I needed to, because he was playing with a lot of variety, making it hard for me. I was a little bit tentative on some shots. [I] allowed him to come forward,” he added.
