Australian Open 2013: Serena Williams skips practice due to ankle injury

There’s a growing concern as to whether Serena Williams can still continue her Australian Open 2013 campaign after reports surfaced that she skipped a scheduled training session on Wednesday. It can be remembered that Williams rolled her ankle during her first round victory over Romanian Edina Gallovits-Hall on Monday.

After her match, Williams said that she may have scans done to check if the injury is serious. However, she informed the tournament officials late Wednesday afternoon that she won’t be practicing.

Williams is a five-time Australian Open champion and she won the last two Grand Slam events – 2012 Wimbledon and 2012 US Open.
