Bernard Tomic vs Kevin Anderson Apia Sydney International men’s singles final set

Bernard Tomic aims to become the first Australian titlist of the Apia International Sydney tournament since compatriot Lleyton Hewitt in 2004.

The world number 64 reached his first ATP World Tour final with a victory over third-seeded Andreas Seppi of Italy 7-6, 6-4 in the semifinals. He will next face South African Kevin Anderson where he holds a 1-0 head-to-head series lead. Anderson saved two match points to beat France’s Julien Benneteau in the other semifinal.

“It’s about time I really got to one of these finals,” said Tomic.

“I had a lot of chances – not a lot, but I had a few tournaments where I had quarters in the past year and lost in tight matches. To do it here is a great privilege and honour, to do it here in Australia. It’s going to be a huge final for me tomorrow, and I’m going to give my heart out there tomorrow to do as best as I can to win,” he added.

While Tomic is attempting to win his first career ATP tour title, Anderson is aiming for this third.
