Brian Baker suffers another injury blow, retires from Australian Open match

American Brian Baker suffered another misfortune during his second-round match at the 2013 Australian Open. While leading on his match against compatriot Sam Querrey, Baker appeared to stumble while fetching a backhand and a few seconds later was seen grimacing in pain and hobbled his way toward his chair. At that moment, it was inevitable that the match was already over.

Australian Open Tournament Director Craig Tiley said that the MRI showed that Baker has a torn lateral meniscus which would mean that he’ll require surgery and about three to four monehts of rehabilitation.

Baker has had multiple surgeries on his hips, a hernia repair and another one on his elbow which kept him out of the ATP TOur for six years. He made waves last year when he barged his way in the world’s top 100 from being unranked due to his impressive wins on tour.
