David Ferrer continues impressive run at Australian Open 2013

World number five David Ferrer, who won the Heineken Open last week, continues his unbeaten streak this 2013 season after reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open 2013 tournament. The Spaniard defeated 28th seed and former finalist Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus in the third round 6-4, 6-2, 6-3.

“Tonight, it was my best match of the week,” said Ferrer. “I’m very happy to win in three sets against Marcos. It is difficult.”

Ferrer will next face Kei Nishikori of Japan in the fourth round. The Spaniard trails 1-2 in their head to head series meeting. Their last encounter was at the Olympics where Nishikori prevailed.

“It’s a very difficult match,” said Ferrer. “I will have to play very well for to beat him. I will have to play similar to tonight – consistent, solid. It’s going to be a very physical match, because he has very good shots.”
