Del Potro blasts past German opponent at Australian Open 2013

Sixth seed Juan Martin del Potro continues his quest for a second Grand Slam singles title after winning his second round match in dominating fashion at the Australian Open 2013. The tall Argentinean blasted past German Benjamin Becker 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 on Thursday night to advance to the third round. The 2009 US Open champion delivered a total of 22 aces and 50 winners.

“I was very confident with my serve and with my movement,” he said after the match.

Up next for Del Potro is Jeremy Chardy of France. The latter outlasted 30th seed Marcel Granollers of Spain earlier on Thursday.

Del Potro is projected to meet third-ranked Andy Murray in the quarterfinals should the seedings hold.
