Serbia’s Novak Djokovic is assured of remaining at the top of the world rankings by Monday, January 28 by virtue of reaching the Australian Open 2013 semifinals. The two-time defending champion defeated Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic in four sets to remain world number one.
Djokovic, who had to recover from his grueling five-hour match less than 48 hours ago, seemed to be on his element against Berdych.
“In the situations where you play a Grand Slam where you have to be ready for five-hour matches, and then of course if you go through those matches you have to be ready to recover in just a day and a half time,” Djokovic said.
“I have a great team of people around me that are doing the best they can in their expertise to make me feel ready physically, mentally, emotionally, every match, every challenge.”
