Novak Djokovic’s Serbia Open ends its run

The Serbia Open tennis tournament, an ATP 250 claycourt event which usually runs during the last week of April, will cease to exist effective this year. This is due to the decision of the tournament organizers, according to reports. The tournament is owned by Novak Djokovic, the world’s top ranked player and is managed and run by his family. This was first staged in2 009.

“We have made the most rational decision considering the circumstances. We are grateful for everyone’s contribution and help in running this event that brought a lot of international stars and attention to Serbia. Unfortunately, we will not be able to run the Belgrade tournament and we have decided to cease the tournament’s operations from 2013,” tournament organizers, Family Sport, said in a statement.

The Serbia Open 2013 has been scheduled to take place from April 29 to May 5. Past singles champions include Novak Djokovic (2009, 2011), Sam Querrey (2010) and Andreas Seppi (2012).
