Radwanska reigns in Auckland

Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska was all business in Auckland and the determination paid off. The Polish world number four did not lose a set on her way to the ASB Classic title on Saturday. She defeated Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer 6-4, 6-4.

Radwanska had to overcome the spirited challenge from USA’s Jamie Hampton and prevailed in a couple of tie breaks while Wickmayer worked hard to beat Mona Barthel of Germany in three sets.

“It was a tough final but I’m glad I made it,” Radwanska said after the match.

“Yesterday was so windy and then today was so hot, so the conditions were difficult this week, but I had a really good week anyway. I played five good matches without dropping a set so I think I’m ready for the Australian Open – I hope I can play some good tennis over the next few weeks, in Sydney as well as in Melbourne,” she added.

Radwanska heads to Sydney for the Apia International tournament where she is the top-seeded player.
