Robson scalps another Grand Slam champion at Australian Open 2013

Great Britain’s Laura Robson advanced to the Australian Open 2013 third round after beating 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in a marathon second round match with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 11-9. The match lasted three hours.

The world number 53 played for the first time on the Centre Court at the Melbourne Park. She’s no novice when it comes to beating former Grand Slam champions, including Kim Clijsters and Li Na.

“This year, I set my expectations a bit higher, and I’m obviously playing a lot better than I was then, so I would have been disappointed to lose today, for sure,” Robson said.

“I thought today was pretty ugly, but in terms of how tough it was to close it out in the end, I think it’s right up there with one of the best wins,” she added.

Up next for Robson is American Sloane Stephens.
