Roger Federer picks Djokovic to win Australian Open 2013 title

World number two Roger Federer, who lost in a five-set marathon match against Andy Murray in the Australian Open 2013 semifinals, said that he thinks that two-time defending champion Novak Djokovic will win the title on Sunday.

“Obviously Novak goes in as the favorite, I would think, even though Andy beat him at the U.S. Open,” Federer said.

“But maybe a day extra is going to make a difference [Djokovic played his semifinal match against David Ferrer on Thursday night while Murray played on Friday night]. But it’s not back to back. He has a day. He’s had an easy run until the semis, until tonight. Maybe it’s something that Andy needed going into the finals. But obviously Novak is the double defending champion here. He’s done really well again this tournament, digging himself out of the hole against Stan [Wawrinka], coming and playing good tennis against [Tomas] Berdych and [David] Ferrer. So obviously a tough match again, and give a slight edge to Novak just because of the last couple of days,” he added.
