Samantha Stosur bows out of Australian Open 2013

Australian Samantha Stosur once again wilted out in her home Grand Slam event after a dramatic defeat in the second round of competitions at the Australian Open 2013 at the Melbourne Park.

Despite leading 5-2 in the third set, Stosur just could convert the opportunities that she had to close out the match and allowed her opponent, China’s Zheng Jie to catch up and win the match altogether with a score of 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.

Zheng Jie is not an opponent to underestimate though since she made it to the Australian Open semifinals in the past. As for Stosur, she’s never made it beyond the fourth round in her 11 visits at the Melbourne Park.

“At 5-2 up in the third, (with a) double break, probably is a bit of a choke, yeah,” Stosur said.

“You probably think a little bit too much. You do it over and over and over again and then you start not wanting to miss rather than wanting to make the winner,” she added.
