Spain beats Serbia to clinch Hopman Cup 2013 title

Spaniards Anabel Medina Garrigues and Fernando Verdasco caused an upset at the Hopman Cup 2013 final after beating heavily-favored Serbia to clinch the Hopman Cup title in Perth, Australia.

The Serbian team is composed of top-ranked Novak Djokovic and Ana Ivanovic and the duo is attempting to win the title for the first time for their home country. With the victory, Spain has won its fourth Hopman Cup title.

Garrigues said that she’s been experiencing back problems this week but she’s happy to have won the title with Verdasco.

Djokovic admitted that he was disappointed to have lost the match.

“They had a great day, a great week and they were a great team and deserved to win,” he said.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t make it but I am sure we will have more luck the next time we come back. We truly love this event,” he added.
