Rafael Nadal beats Nalbandian to clinch Brasil Open 2013 title

World number five Rafael Nadal won his 37th claycourt title on Sunday after beating former number three David Nalbandian of Argentina 6-2, 6-3 in the final of the Brasil Open 2013 in Sao Paulo. This is Nadal’s first title win since claiming his 11th Grand Slam title in Roland Garros in June 2012. Last week, the Spaniard finish runner-up in both singles and doubles events at the VTR Open in Chile.

“It’s very nice and important because at the end of your career what’s left are the titles, and depending on certain moments there are some titles that you appreciate very much,” said Nadal.

“This one I appreciate it the most because of all the struggles I went through during the week, with some problems with my knee some days,” he added.

The 26-year old Mallorcan now has won his 51st career title. He won 250 ranking points and $82,300 in prize money.
