Rafael Nadal clinches Acapulco 2013 title

World number five Rafael Nadal asserted his dominance on claycourts by handily beating fellow claycourt specialist and compatriot David Ferrer in the final of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel 2013 tournament in Acapulco, Mexico on Saturday. Nadal handily won 6-0, 6-2 .

Nadal’s long absence on tour has seen his ranking slide out of the world’s top four but he’s narrowing the gap and seemed poised to reclaim his place amongst the tour’s Big Four by earning 500 ranking points for the title win. He has reached three finals in his comeback early in February, winning two (Brasil Open, Acapulco) and being a runner-up (VTR Open).

Ferrer is aiming to defend the Acapulco title for the fourth straight year but just couldn’t find his game in overcoming the King of Clay. This is Nada’s second title in Acapulco, having won the event in 2005.
