Roger Federer has yet to agree with Basel 2013 appearance fee – tourney director

Roger Brennwald, the tournament director of the Basel Swiss Indoors event, revealed that they have yet to reach an agreement with Roger Federer regarding his appearance fee for this year’s tournament, which takes place in October.

Federer has participated at his hometown event 13 times and won it five times. His contract with the tournament has already expired in 2012 and news has spread that he won’t be participating in 2013 as evidenced by the 2013 tournament calendar his team released late last year.

“Roger has always [been our] top priority,” Brennwald said to the Switzerland-based newspaper Tages Anzeiger. “We have launched campaigns in the millions for him and allowed him to promote his sponsors, which is not very common. We are grateful for the time we were allowed to have with him. The thing is very simple: We have made an offer to him, which he refused. We have submitted a second offer, which he has not responded to. We do not normally pay a seven-figure [appearance fee].”

The tournament organizers announced this week that they’ve signed Rafael Nadal to participate at the Basel Indoors this year.
